1981 Blue Colnago Super

Around 1997 Jim had finally finished a period of several years of intense education and associated job training and could finally afford the time, not to mention the money, for a high end racing bike that he had fantasized about since the original ride on the Paramount in 1972. However he was not interested in a modern bike but instead a vintage bike that would satisfy that aesthetic of beauty, efficiency, and both form and function of the era associated to a large degree with Campagnolo components. These were known as Nuovo Record and Super Record from the mid to late 1960s to about 1987. He located this bike on the Internet which continued to be an increasing focus of the vintage bike world. The Colnago label is about as Italian as it gets in this world and is legendary not simply for it's racing results but for its demonstration that this high end of the bike racing spectrum is also about art. This bike also came with signature Colnago clover highlights as shown in the photos. The bike has a full "Campy" Super Record (SR) group. Note that the "Campagnolo" on the caliper arm on front and back brakes is now in script writing in this mid 80's 3rd version of the SR brakes suggesting they were not the original brake calipers supplied with this 1981 bike. As it turned out this bike only fanned the flames of vintage bike obsession of which this museum is the result! Bike was sold in Janury 2025.
